THEMODULE

Our idea was to create a waiting area that is able to adjust itself to its surroundings and peoples needs. The design should allow to give different interpretations to locations, and create interesting seating opportunities. Benches could be placed in different ways to interact with each other.
It also had to be easy to build with instructions, using cheap mate- rials and simple tools. While researching materials we came across wooden planks that are used in wall frames. They gave us the idea of a wooden frame with the planks as its basis.
Our design philosophy was to commit to the concept of a simple module, that can be expanded and customized. Repetition of the module can create perpendicular shapes for seating, and backrest and roof can be added as needed.
The module that we created can be built using 3×1 cm wooden planks. Metal screws, nuts and discs create pin connections.
